Dodger Stadium visitor guide

Dodger Stadium has several interesting tidbits of history and facts, but did you know it's the oldest Major League Baseball stadium west of the Mississippi River? It's located in Elysian Park, which is in Los Angeles, helping it to consistently draw enthusiastic fans. Another cool piece of history is that it was originally going to be built in Brooklyn, but because the team president and the borough weren't able to come to a deal, a new location was chosen.

Part of the allure of this stadium is that it has managed to both modernize and stay true to its roots. It's a fine line to walk, yet Dodger Stadium is doing it with flying colors. As the stadium has gone through various renovations, it now hosts a variety of events.

If you've got tickets to watch the Los Angeles Dodgers play, or any other event at the stadium grounds, you'll want to pay close attention to the bag policy details we have for you.

Dodger Stadium Bag Policy Basics: Make Sure You're Prepared

Just like so many other stadiums around the United States, there is a clear bag policy in effect at Dodger Stadium. Clear plastic bags also need to fit the size requirements, which cannot be larger than 12” x 12” x 6”. Any bag larger than this size is prohibited.

Some of the prohibited bags on game day include:

  • Backpacks
  • Coolers
  • Beach Bags

If you have a small bag that is a maximum of 5” x 8” x 2”, it doesn't need to be clear. That could include a small clutch bag. To give you a visual, that is about half the size of a standard piece of paper, so we are talking about a very small bag much smaller than typical purses and even some of the larger clutch bags. It's more like the size of wallets.

Another exception to the bag policy is adult diaper bags and diaper bags for infants.

For those who are showing up to a game expecting to store bags at the stadium grounds, there are no storage lockers available. It's best to arrive at the ballpark light and not carry much of anything with you. Be sure to read your ticket properly so you know which gate is your entrance point.

Dodger Stadium Has a Few Extra Policies and Rules to Know

Outside of the bag policy, there are other policies, rules, and information to know before your event date. Here's a closer look.

Food and Drink

Refillable water bottles are allowed, but they can't be glass and they need to be empty when you enter the gate. There are free water bottle filling stations in the stadium you can use. As well, plastic factory-sealed bottles that contain non-alcoholic beverages are allowed. No metal cans or glass bottles are permitted.

Outside food is allowed, but again there are rules. Food needs to fit in your clear bag. A Ziploc bag can be a great option, just be sure you're using bags smaller than 12” x 12” x 6”.

If you don't want to deal with carrying outside food and drink into the stadium, then you can get something to eat once you arrive.

Camera Policy

Fans are encouraged to bring a video or still camera, as long as it's for personal use. Any professional camera equipment such as tripods, lights, and telephoto lenses more than six inches aren't allowed.

Getting to the Stadium

You can drive to the stadium and use the parking lot on-site, but it can fill up fast. Besides a crowded parking lot, Los Angeles traffic is some of the worst in all of North America.

The best option is to travel by public transit so you don't have to worry about parking. As long as you are a ticket holder you can use the Dodger Stadium Express for free, which connects to public transit at South Bay and Union Station. You can also arrive by bus using the Vin Scully Avenue Metro Bus routes. Routes 1, 2, 3, and 4 all make stops at the stadium.

Signs and Banners

Signs and banners are prohibited items.

ADA Accommodations

It is recommended you call the Dodger Hotline at 323-224-2611 to learn about accessible accommodations. You can also discuss requirements you may have for a specific medical issue.

A Cashless Environment

Be warned that cash is no longer permitted for use in Dodger Stadium, you'll need a credit or debit card. If you don't have a credit or debit card, you can use the Cash-to-Card kiosks on the stadium grounds. These allow you to purchase prepaid debit cards with cash.

Know the Bag Policy So Your Dodger Stadium Experience Is Great

Before you reach the entry gates it's recommended you know the bag policy, along with these other rules and policies. This will help speed up the process and make sure you're in your seat well before game time. Simple things like knowing you need to carry a clear plastic bag, leaving oversized fanny packs and purses at home, knowing what a "permissible bag", and expecting proper inspection at the gate are a recipe for a great Dodgers game experience!
